This robot vacuum review will focus on our second iRobot model – the iRobot Roomba 770 Vacuum Cleaning Robot for Pets and Allergies. This is a very advanced model, and just like the 630 it focuses on dealing with pet hair. The 770 also offers stronger suction and superior HEPA filtration. This allows the model to deal with the allergens, leaving only fresh, clean air in its wake. On top of all that, this Roomba is equipped with improved energy managing systems, that prolong the battery life by a big margin, especially in comparison to older models.
The iRobot Roomba 770 makes use of newer versions of the same systems that its predecessor the 630 does. Once again, here we see the AeroVac Technology, that allows the Roomba to deal with all types of dust, dirt and pet hair. The model makes use of the three stage cleaning technology, removing up to 98% of the aforementioned dust dirt and pet hair. Just like the other models in the series, the 770 auto-adjusts to the type of flooring that its dealing with and can easily handle carpets, rugs, hardwood floors and tiles, switching between them with ease.
One of the key diffreneces between the 770 and the older models it the fact that the Roomba770 has a built-in HEPA filter, which stops almost all allergens, greatly reducing the chances of allergic response.
Again, there aren’t any real accessories to talk about in the package. The most important feature to remember once again are the Virtual Wall devices. Using them, you can wall off certain parts of your home and the Roomba will not cross their infrared beam.
The iRobot Roomba 770 carries all the positive sides of its predecessors, like the powerful suction and multi functionality. The model has no problems picking up debris, dust, dirt and pet hair alike. And speaking of pet hair, there are very few models, even in its own price range that come close to it. The motor power, backed up by the AeroVac 2.0 Technology make sure that no clogging can happen. The battery of this model lasts even longer – up to 50% more than its predecessors.
Powerful – The motor of this Roomba is quite powerful for a robot vacuum cleaner and puts may of its competitors to shame even alone. And when we add the AeroVac tech to the picture, we end up with a remarkable model.
Easy to Setup – This part has remained pretty much the same as with the previous models. While the lack of attachments would usually be seen as a disadvantage if we are looking at a standard vacuum here there is no such thing. Even the best robot vacuum cleaner models have little to no attachments and thus they require a minimal amount of attention.
Great Battery Life – The iRobot Roomba 770 uses a special technology that reduces the battery usage by 50%, greatly prolonging its cleaning sessions. And when it runs low on power, the model will go back to its recharge station and take a break.
Easy to Control – The model comes with a remote control, which allows you to operate it from a long distance and it can be scheduled to perform up to seven different cleaning sessions per week.
The major problem that the 770 has, comes from its cliff recognition system. The main idea behind this system is great – it is supposed to prevent your Roomba from fallning down the stairs, it has a rather annoying side effect. Even though the system and the robot vacuum itself are quite advanced, they fail to distinguish between dark patterned flooring and cliffs. If you own any dark themed rugs or carpets, it is most likely that the Roomba won’t really like them and will usually refuse to operate around and on them. The repositioning problem now takes back seat, because the remote control makes it all a lot easier.
Dark Patterns – If you own dark themed rugs, carpets or other flooring, there is a big chance that the model will mistake them for cliffs and will refuse to work in close proximity. If this is the case we would recommend that you steer clear of this particular Roomba.
Repositioning – The old repositioning problem is still present, but not as annoying. Even the best robot vacuum cleaner models can and will eventually get stuck somewhere, but with the new remote control system breaking the model free doesn’t require nearly as much effort as before.
This iRobot model gets a solid 9.2 out of 10 from us. The improvements over the past models really show here, with the significantly longer battery life and easy control. The old major problem, partly resolved by the easier controls, has been pushed aside by the a new one – the cliff recognition system. The model simply refuses to operate on dark textured flooring and if you own some rugs or carpets of the sorts, it is best to avoid purchasing the Roomba 770.
However, if you have no dark patterned flooring in your home and especially if you are a pet owner, then this Roomba is one of the best robot vacuum cleaner choices that you can make!
